Alonzo Fireworks has, over its 50-plus year existence, become one of the most recognized and respected names in American pyrotechnics. Joann Alonzo is the company's owner and president, as well as keeper of the family's pyrotechnic torch. Alonzo Fireworks, a tradition begun in 1939 by uncle, Alfred Alonzo, was eventually passed on to Louis, Joann's husband. Lou entered the business in the late '60s, and was gradually given the reins. In recent years, Lou's children, Jeff and Mandi, have become closely involved and run the company's day to day operations.
As in its beginning, Alonzo Fireworks today remains a handmade business in the proud Italian tradition with some modifications. Over the years, the generations-old Alonzo formulas have been fine tuned, augmented, and integrated with cutting edge techniques and materials. Because it is actually two complementary businesses - a manufacturing unit and a display unit - Alonzo Fireworks is one of the few companies worldwide which can stage major aerial and ground spectaculars using nothing but AMERICAN-MADE products. To simplify its day to day operations, Alonzo Fireworks has recently partnered together with Rozzi, Inc of Ohio to run and control the day to day manufacturing operation, this allowing Alonzo Fireworks to concentrate totally on areial display productions.
Situated on one Hudson River site and one Mohawk Valley site which total (15) acres, Alonzo Fireworks employs a year round staff averaging 5 craftsmen and women. Each employee has his or her own expertise" hand-rolling paper tubing, fuse manufacturing, custom wood fabrication for ground displays, musical choreography, etc. It's staff increases to 100 part time during the display season.
Alonzo Fireworks has competed in International Fireworks competitions in the early 90's, and also provided special effects for motion pictures, television shows, and rock concerts including the 1994 Paul McCartney World Tour.
